The short version
- There are no accounts, and we don't sell or rent your data.
- Your location and preferences stay in your own browser. To find things to do, your location (or the area you typed) is sent to the map, weather and event services listed below.
- We don't set cookies. Our site analytics are cookieless.
Effective date: October 29, 2026
Your location
You can type a place, or tap “Use my location”, in which case your browser asks your permission before sharing your position. The app uses your location in your browser to look up weather, places and events nearby. We have no server-side database of users or locations.
What's stored in your browser
Dilly-Dally uses your browser's localStorage (and sessionStorage) on your device only. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings, or with the ✕ button in the “Where” box, which removes your saved location.
dd_loc: the place you last chose (name and coordinates).dd_date: the date you picked.dd_prefs: mood, group size, budget, radius and indoor/outdoor setting.dd_tab: which results tab you last opened.dd_pl_…anddd_mk_…: a temporary cache of places and markets found near a location, so repeat visits load faster.dd_tm_key: only if you paste your own Ticketmaster key in the Events settings. It stays in your browser and is sent only to Ticketmaster.dd_ov_fail(session only): notes that a map server was slow, so the app can use a different one.
Services that receive your location
To show results, your browser sends the place name you typed, or approximate coordinates, to these services. Each has its own privacy policy. Where we say “via our proxy”, the request goes through our server first (see below), and the service sees our server instead of your device.
- Place search: Photon (Komoot), with Nominatim / OpenStreetMap as a backup. These also turn “Use my location” into a town name.
- Places nearby: Overpass API (OpenStreetMap data), Nominatim, Photon, and Wikipedia (nearby articles). Nominatim and Overpass requests may go via our caching proxy.
- Weather: the US National Weather Service (US locations, called directly), MET Norway (via our proxy), and Visual Crossing for dates far ahead (via our proxy).
- Events: Ticketmaster via our proxy, or directly from your browser if you paste your own key. Nager.Date receives only your country code, to list public holidays. Free local events come from a file on this site that we compile from public library and city calendars, so loading it sends your location nowhere.
- Links you tap (Maps, Tickets, Eventbrite, Meetup, Bandsintown, AllEvents, Groupon, Google search and others) open those sites, and the link may include the place or city name. What happens there is covered by their policies.
Our proxy (Cloudflare Workers)
Some requests go through a small proxy we run on Cloudflare Workers. It keeps our API keys private, adds the identification some services require, and caches results for a short time (minutes to a day) so we stay within their limits. It forwards only what's needed: rounded coordinates, a date and search terms. It doesn't log your requests or link them to you. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the request (see Cloudflare's privacy policy).
Analytics
We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It's cookieless: it doesn't set cookies, use local storage for tracking, or fingerprint your device.
Affiliate links
We may earn a commission from some links on this site. If we add affiliate links, the partner site may set its own cookies when you click through, under that partner's policy. Dilly-Dally itself doesn't set cookies.
Children
Dilly-Dally is a general-audience planning tool. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date above.
